PERILS OF THE HUNTER-THE MOUNTAIN LION
This ferocious beast is not a lion
but a puma, which used to
inhabit the Rocky Mountains
and other mountainous districts
of North America in consider-
able numbers. It preyed on
mountain sheep and goats, and
smaller game such as foxes and
coyotes, but would also stalk
and kill the Indians hunting such
game, and was regarded by
them as the most dangerous and
cunning of all beasts.
